Last week, Tennis West signed a memorandum of understanding with the Kent Yamazaki and Bob Brett Foundation to help support the advancement of disadvantaged young people in tennis and provide accessible competitive playing opportunities for developing athletes around Australia.

“Tennis West is delighted to partner with the Kent Yamazaki and Bob Brett Tennis Foundation to further support the advancement of young people in tennis and to help tackle the barriers that can hinder young athletes’ development,” said Tennis West CEO Brett Patten.

“We look forward to helping the Foundation continue to create accessible competitive tennis experiences for young people passionate about tennis who, without the work of the foundation, may not have access to these opportunities.”

The Kent Yamazaki and Bob Brett Tennis Foundation aims to advance, encourage and promote the education of financially and/or socially disadvantaged youth through participation in tennis. Passionate about the physical and mental health benefits of tennis and fostering personal development, the Foundation regularly holds events across Australia to give youths in metro and regional areas the opportunity to obtain a new skill as well as providing an accessible experience of competitive tennis at a lower cost.

“Tennis is a sport where everyone is equal on the court regardless of gender, age or race,” said Tomio Yamazaki, Co-Founder of the Kent Yamazaki and Bob Brett Foundation and Kent’s father.

“The Foundation aims to provide socially disadvantaged young people with the opportunity to experience the sport of tennis—a sport that is barrier-free and rich in diversity in order to keep them connected to society and exposed to new values.”
