19 April 2022 | Tennis West

Eleven of WA’s talented Junior players will take to the court this week in the 2022 12 & U and 14 & U Australian Claycourt Championships presented by Kia.

Held at the Canberra Tennis Centre, 128 of the best 12-and-under and 14-and-under players from around the country will be competing for valuable Australian ranking points and national titles in their respective age groups, as well as taking out national claycourt titles.

Taking place from 19-24 April, the juniors will be leaving it all out on the court. While clay courts may not be as plentiful as their hard and grass court cousins in Australia, aspiring players need to get to grips with the different surface to help develop their career, with several international events played on clay surfaces. Arguably the most physically and technically demanding, clay often makes for a more tactical game.

UPDATE: Congratulations to Sara Nikolic who won the 12 & U Girls Doubles title with her partner Scarlett Dattoli 6-4, 2-6, 10-4.
