“Age is just a number, what you do with it is what counts,” were the words uttered by tennis player Gloria Dennis during the 2022 Australian Masters Games, held last week in Perth.
At 81-years-old, Gloria was the oldest female competitor in this year’s Games and, as the sole participant in the singles 80+ category, had to play down an age group and her 58 years of tennis experience put her opponents to the test!
Gloria also hit the court with her son, Nigel, in the Mixed Doubles event, competing in tennis together for the first time and bringing a long history of family sport to life. Known as a tennis legend in the Adelaide tennis community, Gloria has contributed largely to tennis in her time on the courts and has been the president of her local club for 43 years.
Running since 1987, the Australian Masters Games is a week-long festival of sport that brings together weekend warriors from around Australia, and the world, to enjoy an extensive sport and social program.
Dalkeith Tennis Club was the perfect venue for all tennis events and saw lots of action on and off the court.
