The South West Adult and Junior League wrapped up over the weekend after six weekends of fixtures.

The newly formed South West Adult League is the first competition of its type in the South West for over a decade.

The league consisted of 120 players from seven local clubs associated in the South West which included clubs such as Bunbury, Busselton, Dunsborough, Margaret River, Brunswick, Collie and Australind.

A total of 14 mixed gender teams across three divisions competed in the six-week event across Bunbury, Busselton and Margaret River.

It was a nail-biting finish with Busselton TNT and Bunbury Jets both tied on total matches, sets and games won, becoming joint pennant winners in Division A.

Division B was won by the Bunbury Braves, and in similar circumstances to Division A, Division C was shared on points with Brunswick and South West Dream Team.

Alongside the South West Adult League, was the return of the South West Junior League where approximately 50 girls and boys over two divisions (Yellow Ball and Orange Ball) competed for their respective clubs.

The final was held at Bunbury Tennis Club with Team Inglis featuring Tao Hely, Cameron Cockburn, Anthony Achmad and Riley Mitchell wining the Yellow Ball Division. In the Orange Ball Division, Team Thompson consisting of Lucas Narkle and Samara Sprigg came out on top.

Club Development Officer and Tennis West Representative for both leagues, Scott Culpin highlighted the success of the season.

“Leagues like the South West Adult League and South West Junior League are a fantastic way for players to meet others of a similar ability, experience different playing styles, be part of a team in a mostly individual sport and to bring out that competitiveness.” Said Scott.

“This season had a great turn out and we expect next season to be even greater.”
