Five tennis facilities spanning both metropolitan and regional WA, will benefit from infrastructure upgrade projects totalling more than $1.5M thanks to the support of the State Government and Local Government Associations (LGA) across the State.

City of Kalamunda (Forrestfield Tennis Club) and East Fremantle Tennis Club were successful in the latest round of the Club Night Lights Program (CNLP).

The CNLP grant provides financial assistance to community groups and local governments to develop sports floodlighting infrastructure.

The Club Night Lights Program exemplifies the State Government’s commitment to the development of sustainable floodlighting infrastructure for sport across the State.

East Fremantle Tennis Club was successful for the proposed installation of floodlighting on five western hard courts, increasing the number of floodlight tennis courts at their facility to nine courts allowing for more tennis participation in the evening.

Committed to the development of sustainable infrastructure for sport and recreation, and aiming to increase participation and physical activity, the State Government’s contribution of more than $1.2M to tennis infrastructure projects was awarded through the Community Sport and Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF).

The program aims to increase participation in sport and recreation, with an emphasis on physical activity, through rational development of sustainable, good quality, well-designed and well-utilised facilities.

The City of Albany were successful in their application for the construction of six courts at the Centennial Park Sporting Precinct and the creation of Albany Tennis Club. The City of Melville and Shire of Trayning were also successful with their applications with funds going towards changeroom and court upgrades.

Olivia Birkett, Head of Operations at Tennis West acknowledged the wonderful funding support from the WA Government, through its CSRFF and CNLP funding rounds.

“These grants provide a reason for our tennis clubs to work closely with their respective Local Governments to ensure both financial and ongoing support of our sport. At the core of these grants, are the dedicated club volunteers who spend such a large amount of time and energy on these projects.

When I received a call from Les Bairstowe in Albany, to tell me they had successfully received their funding, the pure joy and relief was evident. These tennis clubs can pause to celebrate the funding announcement, but all of them are aware of the next steps to see their facility projects come to life. Tennis West looks forward to working with clubs through this process and again, thanks all tiers of Government for their funding and support,” said Birkett.
