The semi finals of the men’s and women’s State League kicks off this Saturday with four do or die clashes.
In the men’s, ladder leaders Cottesloe go up against UWA at Cottesloe Tennis Club. The match poses as a danger game for Cottesloe with UWA winning the previous tie 4-2 when the two sides met in Round 11. However, the home ground advantage will give Cottesloe some confidence, with the home side going through the season undefeated at home.
Hensman Park’s comprehensive win over UWA in the final round secured a home final for their semi final clash with Alexander Park. Recent form suggests Hensman Park will be favourites with the home side winning their last two fixtures. Alexander Park is coming off two tight loses to Royal Kings Park and Cottesloe but will be confident knowing that they can match it with the best. Alexander Park were also victors in their most recent tie, winning 6-0 in Round 10.
In the women’s, Alexander Park host Dalkeith in the first semi-final. Both sides played against each other only two weeks ago with Alexander Park winning the tie 5-1. Alexander Park have been the standout team in the women’s competition, having not lost a match since Round six and have won all three ties against Dalkeith this season.
The second semi final fixture between Peppermint Grove and Hensman Park at Peppermint Grove Tennis Club could go down to the wire. Hensman Park takes a 2-1 lead in head-to-head matches won this season with Hensman Park narrowly winning by one set in their round 12 fixture. Like Cottesloe in the men’s State League, home ground advantage could prove vital with Peppermint Grove going undefeated at home this season.
Winning teams from each of the semi-finals will then play in the grand final on Saturday, 18th March with the top ranked winners of both competitions receiving a home final.
