WA’s Taylah Preston has been crowned women’s singles and doubles champion at the Cairns Tennis International #2.

After two weeks of fierce competition, the finals over the weekend went down to the wire.

The promising 17-year-old claimed her third ITF singles title of the season, overcoming Japan’s Yuki Naito 6-4 6-4 in the final.

It is world No.316 Preston’s second Australian Pro Tour singles title, following a title-winning run in her hometown of Perth last month, and improves her recent record to 15 wins from her past 17 matches.

Preston’s impressive form carried over to the doubles court too, winning her first professional title alongside 23-year-old compatriot Destanee Aiava.

Preston triumphed across both the singles and doubles for the first time in her career. Having recently taken out the Perth event, she was delighted to be able to do it again so soon.

“Coming off the hometown win in Perth, this feels like the next step in my professional career,” Taylah Preston said.

The Cairns Tennis International is part of the Australian Pro Tour, a series of professional tennis events that bridge junior events and the ATP/WTA Tour, providing an opportunity for players to earn their first world ranking points.

The Cairns International #1 and #2 Pro Tour events ran between 1-15 October 2023 and offers a prize money pool of $100,000 US dollars.
