Tennis West is proud to formalise a partnership with Sport4All in 2024. The Sport4All Program is designed and delivered by Get Skilled Access, a Disability Owned Business Enterprise founded by Paralympic Gold Medallist, Grand Slam champion and 2022 Australian of The Year Dylan Alcott.

Targeted at local sporting clubs, schools and communities to embrace diversity and create opportunities for people with disability in all aspects of sport, the national award-winning program aims to drive positive change in grassroots sport, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the benefits of sport when, where, and how they choose.

Tennis is the first sporting body in WA to partner with Sport4All with the focus on increasing awareness, capability and sustainability of the Tennis community to include people with disability in all aspects of Tennis.

Sport4All aims to partner with State Sporting Associations through their new Inclusion Coach role which will work directly with the new Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Lead role at Tennis West to help drive awareness of the Sport4All program and provide tailored support to clubs and schools to complete the Sport4All self-reflection tool, online learning modules and action plan and help clubs and coaches begin or further their inclusion journey.

In a recent survey sent out to tennis clubs and coaches, Tennis West had an overwhelming response with 78 responses from a cross section of the WA tennis community. 70% of responses said they were interested in learning more about how to host programs for people with a disability.

“This new role will provide an added value resource for State Sporting Associations to support existing diversity, access, and inclusion work, and help to broaden the impact in community to increase opportunities for people with disability to participate in all aspects of sport.” Said Sport4All WA State Manager Carina McMillen.

“Our partnership sees Tennis West as a key advocate of the Sport4All program. Our Inclusion Coach – State Sport role will provide in-kind support, guidance, and lived-experience examples to the Tennis community regarding welcoming and inclusive practices for Tennis.”

“We are incredibly excited to announce our partnership with Tennis West on this International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) and looking forward to working with the WA Tennis community to make Tennis more accessible for people with disability,” said McMillen.

Tennis West Diversity, Equity Inclusion and Projects Specialist Paula Gates said the response from our recent club and coach inclusion survey was very encouraging, with great enthusiasm from respondents wanting to implement a program or know more about all-abilities tennis.

“We’re excited to work with Sport4All to elevate our all-abilities tennis offerings, working with eager clubs and coaches across WA in 2024, ensuring tennis is recognised as a sport for all.”
