Men’s and women’s State League action continued over the weekend with some big results and some surprising upsets.  

TWSL MEN’S 

Cottesloe defeated UWA 6-0 

Cottesloe delivered a commanding performance at home, securing a clean 6-0 victory over UWA to remain on top of the ladder. In the singles contests, Scott Webster set the tone with a convincing 6-0, 6-3 win over Hans Bustiman. Ethan Dunn and Will Hann followed suit with straight-set victories, showcasing their prowess on the court. Adam Kehane faced stiff competition but ultimately triumphed with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Adityavikram Mann, contributing to Cottesloe’s singles sweep. 

The doubles matches saw the pairings of Scott Webster/Will Hann and Ethan Dunn/Adam Kehane continuing the team’s dominance, securing two more victories and completing the comprehensive 6-0 triumph. 

  

Peppermint Grove defeated Mt Lawley/Sorrento 4-2 

Peppermint Grove emerged victorious against Mt Lawley/Sorrento, clinching a 4-2 win in a series of hard-fought battles. Brandon Walkin got back on the winners list and set the tone for Peppermint Grove with a solid 6-3, 6-3 win over Jerome Iaconi. However, the competition intensified as Jake Robinson faced a tough challenge, falling to Casey Ambler in a closely contested match. Luka Vujacic regained momentum for Peppermint Grove with a 6-3, 6-4 victory. 

Doubles action proved pivotal, with the pairings of Brandon Walkin/Luka Vujacic and Sam Ashenden/Samuel Chapman for Peppermint Grove securing crucial wins, sealing the team’s 4-2 triumph. 

  

Alexander Park defeated Blue Gum Park 6-0 

Alexander Park bounced back from last week’s loss with a dominant 6-0 victory over Blue Gum Park. The team showcased a mix of experience and emerging talent, delivering stellar performances across singles and doubles matches. Scott Jones won his fifth singles match in a row this season, setting the tone with a 6-3, 6-4 win in the singles against Ethan Cook, while Harry Bourchier and Ashwin Sharma continued the momentum with convincing victories. The doubles pairs of Scott Jones/Harry Bourchier and Austin Vos/Daniel Downey completed the clean sweep, securing another impressive win for Alexander Park. 

  

TWSL WOMEN’S 

Dalkeith defeated Alexander Park 5-1 

Dalkeith demonstrated their prowess with a convincing 5-1 victory over Alexander Park securing their first win of the season. The singles matches were characterised by fierce competition, after going down in straight sets to Peyton Duckett in round 1, Lauren Nikoloski responded, setting the tone in a thrilling three-set encounter and coming out on top. Ali Connell and Hayley Burton continued Dalkeith’s dominance with their respective victories, contributing to the team’s overall success. 

The doubles matches saw a spirited effort from both teams, with Dalkeith ultimately securing the win. Meg Connell and Sally Partington closed out the day with a well-fought victory, sealing a 5-1 triumph for Dalkeith. 

  

Applecross defeated Peppermint Grove 3-3 (Applecross won on sets 8-7) 

The matchup between Applecross and Peppermint Grove delivered one of the most exciting contests of Round 6, with the result coming down to sets as both teams displayed exceptional resilience and skill. 

Peppermint Grove’s Jess Culley and Tara Aleksic gave the away team an early lead, but notable performances came from Mahta Khanloo of Applecross, who secured a commanding 6-0, 6-1 victory, and Sunny Kyoungmin Youn, who exhibited her prowess with a 7-5, 6-2 win. The doubles matches were closely contested, with both teams trading sets. Needing to win after Jaun Yum snatched a set off Tara Aleksic in the singles, he pairing of Ruby Broadbent and Ioanna Papastamouli emerged victorious for Applecross. 

  

Royal Kings Park defeated Hensman Park 6-0 

Royal Kings Park caused an upset and asserted their dominance with a comprehensive 6-0 victory over Hensman Park. The singles matches showcased stellar performances, with Amy Findlay, Rhea Makesar, and Amelia Tatafu securing straight-set wins against an inexperienced side. 

In the double’s contests, the pairings of Saanvi Tak/Rhea Makesar and Amy Findlay/Justine Hayward-Janney continued Royal Kings Park’s winning streak, delivering strong performances to secure the team’s 6-0 triumph. The win takes Royal Kings Park back to 2nd on the ladder while Hensman Park remains a game clear on top. 

 

The ladders for both the men’s and women’s State League have tightened up with all clubs now having lost at least one match with Hensman Park going down to Royal Kings Park in the women’s. Applecross are the form women’s team at the moment with three straight wins while in the men’s Cottesloe remain on top after three consecutive wins.
