Eight West Aussies are set to contest in the Australian Open 2024 men’s, women’s and mixed doubles competitions.
Matt Ebden, Australia’s top-ranked male player at world No.4, is teaming with India’s Rohan Bopanna. They are the second seeds and face Aussie wildcards James Duckworth and Marc Polmans in the opening round.
Ebden will also team up with fellow West Australian Storm Hunter in the mixed doubles.
The Western Australians, who teamed up for the first time at the United Cup earlier this summer to help steer Team Australia into the semifinals, are the top seeds.
World No.1 Hunter and world No.4 Ebden have been handed a tough draw, pitted against reigning Wimbledon champions Lyudmyla Kichenok and Mate Pavic in the opening round.
In the women’s doubles, World No.1 Storm Hunter is teaming with Czech Katerina Siniakova this season. Siniakova is the world No.13 and a two-time Australian Open doubles champion.
The third-seeded duo defeated Colombia’s Camila Osorio and Kazakhstan’s Yulia Putintseva in the first round 7-5, 7-5.
The pair will potentially face off against another West Aussie in Maddison Inglis who teams up with Destanee Aiava.
Taylah Preston teamed up with fellow Australian Ariana Rodionova in an all Aussie affair defeating fellow West Aussie Astra Sharma and Kaylah McPhee in a tense 7-6, 7-6 win.
Talia Gibson will also compete in the women’s doubles with another Aussie in Priscilla Hon.
In the men’s doubles, Tristan Schoolkate will team up with Aussie Adam Walton. The pair take on Francisco Cabral (POR) and Henry Patten (GBR).
