The Champion of Champions event is set to again become one of the most prestigious events on the Tennis West calendar, with champions from each affiliated tennis club pitted against each other in a knockout battle for supremacy.
Commencing in 1964, the inaugural winners were Dorothy Whitely (Lee) and Brian Bowman. Multiple past winners of the Champion of Champions include Christine Matison (Dorey), Paula Parentich, Gary Penberthy, Rob Casey, and Roger Grant.
The event was discontinued after 1995 and is now set to be reintroduced at the conclusion of the 2023-24 Summer League season.
The Champion of Champions event will run over two weekends in April at the ever-prestigious grass courts of Cottesloe Tennis Club. The singles will be played on the 20th and 21st April and the doubles event played on the 27th and 28th April.
This initiative is aimed at re-energising club member engagement. Singles players and doubles pairs will qualify to represent their club at the Tennis West Champion of Champions Finals by winning their respective club singles and doubles titles.
Club singles and doubles winners will be ranked according to UTR into divisions with a draw size of eight where players will challenge for a total prize pool of more than $10,000.
Winners of all singles events will receive a commemorative plaque to be displayed at their club.
In a boost for local league players, the Doubles Teams Event, a separate event to the Champion of Champions event but will also run on the weekend of the 20th and 21st April at Cottesloe Tennis Club. This event is designed to give league players and teams an opportunity to play more competitive matches after the summer season.
Teams shall consist of at least four players and up to a maximum of six. Teams will then be graded into round robin groups of 4 teams. Ties will consist of two doubles rubbers played on two courts.
Entries to the Doubles Teams Event close 10th April while the Champion of Champions Event closes 6th April.
