Thank you to all participants who completed the 2023/24 Summer Leagues Format Review Survey. We had an overwhelming 580 respondents and the feedback was well received by the Tennis West Competitions Committee. The feedback will help shape how the 2024/25 Summer Leagues are determined.
A snapshot of all the results are summarised below:
The survey opened Monday 29 April and closed Monday 20 May.
There were a total of 580 respondents:
– 53% male / 46% female
– 86% adult players
– 40% Midweek Night Leagues / 39% Saturday Leagues / 21% Sunday Seniors Leagues
– 62 tennis clubs represented
Question #13 – “My preference for future Summer Tennis League competitions is…”
Interestingly, despite much vocal feedback, only 51.72% chose to revert to previous competition format of 14 weeks + 2 weeks.
Upon review of the Survey Analysis (Questions 5, 6 & 13) and Survey Summary, Tennis West League Operations, in consultation with Tennis West Competitions Committee has determined the following formats will be applied to the 2024/25 Summer League season:
– Adult Leagues (Midweek Night, Women’s Midweek Day, Saturday Open, Sunday League, Sunday Seniors) will revert to a 14/2 week season.
– Sunday Junior Leagues will retain the 10/2 week season.
– State League (To be confirmed at the State League Workshop scheduled for Monday 17 June)
58% respondents would like to see a dedicated club opening day. Modelling has reserved Saturday October 12.
73% of respondents would like to see a League free period during the December school holidays. Modelling has indicated this is impossible to achieve with a longer season. Saturday Leagues Round 9 is scheduled for December 14.
Sunday Leagues Round 9 is scheduled one week earlier on December 8 to avoid a clash with ITF MT200 event at Royal Kings Park Tennis Club. (Consequently, Sunday Leagues will commence Round 1 one week earlier on Sunday 13 October).
74% of respondents would like to see a League free period during the January school holidays. Modelling has accommodated this request.
64% of respondents would like to see a League free period to conduct club championships. Modelling has reserved the weekend of March 29/30 (League back up weekend) and weekend of April 5/6.
Singles Champion of Champions is scheduled for the weekend of April 12/13 and Doubles Champion of Champions scheduled for the weekend of April 26/27.
