Peter Schoolkate will be leaving the Tennis Australia high performance coaching team, a position he has held from 2014 to 2024. He will be taking up a part time coaching role in the Netherlands whilst caring for his ageing mum and spending quality time with family.
In his 30-year full time coaching career in Perth, Peter held club coaching positions at City Beach and Claremont Lawn Tennis clubs. At those clubs Peter coordinated between 12-24 junior pennant teams every year and conducted a popular tennis program that catered for all levels and ages. The volume of kids was always the main drive in all programs, and that happened all the time, in all locations he coached.
At Claremont from 2001-2014, Peter created the biggest junior club where 200 kids turned up every Friday night where all levels of play lobbed into the club. Tim Gray, Scotty Webster, Ben Webster, Tristan Schoolkate, Brodie Schoolkate, Simon Ferreira and Vuk Velickovic just to name a few all came out of the program, and all ended up in the State Program at Tennis West.
Peter has had over 20 years coaching experience in West Australia, National and International Tournaments, ITF and Grand Slams and will travel to Wimbledon to support and watch Tristan Schoolkate in the qualifying rounds.
“On behalf of Tennis West I would like to thank Peter Schoolkate on his 30 plus years contributing to tennis in Western Australia,” said National Development Squad Coach Goran Marijan.
“Peter has been a part of our development program for numerous years and we wish him all best on his next chapter in Europe.”
