Tennis West is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms Larissa Beeson, Mr Mark Scatena and Ms Nadia Owen to the Tennis West Board. The trio fill casual vacancies, each for different terms, and will join the existing board of six, to make a full board of nine. The Tennis West Board can now forge ahead and continue to deliver innovation, good governance, strong government relations, and the strategic development of tennis in Western Australia.
Selected from a strong pool of nominations, Larissa, Mark and Nadia were identified as best fit candidates, demonstrating they have the required and identified skills to fill gaps on the Board. These skills were: communications and stakeholder management, finance, commercial business and risk management and investment. The Board also sought candidates who met the essential attributes of independence, strategic thinking, leadership, integrity, communication and interpersonal skills, previous board experience and commitment to ongoing professional development.
The three successful new board members each demonstrated their exemplary experience to support the Board’s strategic plan and future vision and are all committed to see the sport of tennis thrive.
Larissa Beeson has a diverse senior executive banking career and brings substantial governance experience in accountability for risk, audit, financial and customer/stakeholder relationships. Larissa has held various Board roles over the past 20 years in the business and banking sector and has been a committee member of Tennis West’s Finance, Audit, Investment and Risk (FAIR) committee and the Governance, People and Culture (GPC) Committee since June 2022. Larissa’s strong sense of curiosity and the comfort to challenge any decision adds immeasurable leadership to the direction of the board. She values the special way that tennis plays in brings communities together and has enjoyed playing socially and spectating over the years.
Mark Scatena is an accomplished commercial leader, having worked across the Wesfarmers Group companies in senior executive roles across the business. Mark’s skillset across governance, strategic planning, commercial evaluation, finance and risk management have served him well across a diverse portfolio of companies. Mark also brings extensive Board experience and has recently been appointed to St John of God Healthcare as a non-executive director. He has also been a committee member of Tennis West’s Finance, Audit, Investment and Risk (FAIR) committee since May 2023. Mark’s experiences, capabilities, enthusiasm and extensive skills across all these areas will be invaluable to the Board of Tennis West. He is also a social tennis player and his family enjoy being involved in the sport and is committed to making a positive difference to tennis in WA.
Nadia Owen is highly skilled in business management, partnership procurement, risk analysis and mitigation and has strong commercial acumen. She is a visionary leader with a passion for brand development, events, venue management and hospitality. Nadia’s extensive customer service mindset, her philosophy in progression and her authenticity will be vital to Tennis West. A lifelong tennis fan, she values the role international events such as the United Cup play in fostering a love of sport and inspiring the next generation of tennis stars. Nadia is currently the Head of Meeting and Special Events at Optus Stadium and is also a Board member of Business Events Perth.
