Perth is set to see a plethora of high-quality Tennis this September with some of Australia’s best young talent set to participate in the upcoming WA Open and Perth International ITF W75 #1 and #2 events at the State Tennis Centre.
It all begins on Monday 2nd September with the WA Open, where some of the best WA men’s and women’s local talent will compete over five days.
The women’s event in the WA Open is a 20K Signature Series and a lead in event to the Perth International ITF W75 #1 which begins a week later. The winner of the women’s singles will receive a wildcard entry into the main draw of the Perth International ITF W75 #1 while the finalist will receive a wildcard into the qualifying draw.
The WA Open is one of WA’s premier amateur events on the calendar. Last year, Ethan Dunn defeated Ashwin Sharma in the men’s competition and Laquisa Khan defeated Monique Barry in the women’s competition.
The winner of the WA Open men’s singles will receive $550 in prize money while the women’s singles winner will receive $3200 in prize money.
Entries for the WA Open are open with both draws cut to 32 players in total. Entries close 23rd August.
The tennis action intensifies a week later with the start of the Women’s ITF Perth International W75. The Women’s ITF World Tennis Tour provides the entry level of professional tournaments, enabling players to reach the higher-level tournaments on the WTA tour.
This year the total prize pool has been increased from $25,000USD to $60,000USD while also offering more WTA world ranking points.
Local female WA talent will be on show across the two weeks with rising stars Talia Gibson, Taylah Preston and Maddison Inglis all a chance to compete.
Tennis West CEO Olivia Birkett was excited about the prospect of welcoming some of the best up and coming talent from across the world with the event’s elevation in status from a W25 to a W75.
“The increase in status also allows our up-and-coming local and Australian talent and those players around the world to come to Perth and compete for increased prize money and world ranking points.”
“Seeing our local superstar and grand slam players like Talia Gibson, Taylah Preston and Maddison Inglis back in Perth, competing in front of their friends and family is wonderful for them and the WA tennis community.”
“Outside of the United Cup, the Perth International ITF W75 will be the biggest professional tennis tournament in WA this calendar year.”
“Having such a high-quality event here in Perth is a great opportunity for young aspiring kids to watch some of the best up-and-coming players play,” said Olivia.
Entry is free for all spectators, and the cafe will be open for each day of the competition of the WA Open and Perth International ITF W75’s. The event is also an important opportunity for the selected United Cup Ball Kids to gain valuable match experience ahead of the United Cup in December.
