The prestigious D’Arcy Slater Cup (boys) and Women in Tennis Foundation Cup (girls) will venture south to the courts of the Bunbury Tennis Club on October 27, with junior tennis players travelling from across the state to compete in the longstanding regional event.

Attracting more than 100 junior tennis players from across Western Australia, players from nine different zones, including Peel, Midwest, Upper Great Southern, Lower Great Southern, Great Southern, Southwest, Central Districts, Pilbara, Kimberly, Esperance and Eastern Districts, will be hitting the courts to contest in the 14 & under junior singles competition over four days.

Players will also compete in the hotly contested zone-based teams’ competition, with zones vying for the top gong in both boys’ and girls’ events.

The D’Arcy Slater Cup and Women in Tennis Foundation Cup have retained a stronghold on the regional tournament calendar, owing to the competitive opportunity they bring to the aspiring athletes residing in regional WA.

“This is the marquee regional junior event of the year and Tennis West really appreciate all the hard work of the regional coaching providers, clubs, players, and parents that makes the event such a memorable experience,” says Tennis West Event Coordinator Brad Ladyman.

“We are really looking forward to seeing all the players on the courts at Bunbury Tennis Club in October.”

Last year, Southwest Boys prevailed in a close contest in the D’Arcy Slater Cup, winning by six games over Lower Great Southern. In the Girls Women in Tennis Foundation Cup, it was Lower Great Southern Girls getting the win over Southwest Girls team.

The Midwest Region lead by local players Clifton Bass and Mitchell Dorant from Tarcoola Tennis Club took home the boys teams division one consolation event.

In the prestigious individual event of the D’Arcy Slater Cup, last year’s winner Denby Sharpe from Albany prevailed over Dunsborough’s Fletcher Braddock.

In the girl’s WIT Foundation Cup, it was a repeat of the 2022 Final with Tea Zizek from Albany reversing the outcome and overcoming Alifaye Gidgup from Brunswick Junction.

The D’Arcy Slater Cup and Women in Tennis Foundation Cup Junior Tournament will be held at Bunbury Tennis Club from Sunday 27th October to Wednesday 30th October 2024.

This event is supported by D’Arcy Slater Foundation and Women in Tennis Foundation. Tennis West thanks you for your ongoing support of this prestigious event.

Supporting the D’Arcy Slater Cup since 2004, the D’Arcy Slater Foundation continues to do so in recognition of D’Arcy’s great love of tennis. D’Arcy, who tragically drowned in the flooded Helena River in 1991, was an enthusiastic member of the Goomalling Tennis Club, the Guildford Grammar School Preparatory School tennis team and the captain of tennis in year 8. The Foundation’s sponsorship is country focused on recognition of D’Arcy’s enjoyment of playing country tennis tournaments.

Supporting the Foundation Cup since 2002, Women in Tennis continue to champion for opportunities in tennis for all female players including players within both metropolitan and regional WA.
