There were plenty of close games and a few surprises in round two of the men’s and women’s State League. 

Men’s Fixtures 

Friday night, 6.00 pm 

Peppermint Grove v Mt Lawley/Sorrento 

Peppermint Grove got their first win on the board with a commanding win over UWA under lights last Friday. They will once again play at home tonight and host Mt Lawley/Sorrento who sent a shockwave across the competition with an impressive win over last year’s premiers Cottesloe. Mt Lawley/Sorrento were strong in their singles rubbers, winning all four but failed to win a doubles tie. Jake Dembo is listed int he number one spot and goes into the match undefeated so far. Dembo will take on Peppermint Grove’s Ethan Cook who started his State League campaign with a convincing win last week. 

 

Saturday, 1.00 pm 

Royal Kings Park v Cottesloe 

Royal Kings Park are back at home this week and take on a side hungry to bounce back after a shock loss last weekend. The home side challenged Alexander Park and were close to potentially closing out a win until bad light stopped play resulting in a draw. Cottesloe were a little off last weekend but will regain their number one seed Scott Webster who won his round one fixture. Both sides have great depth in their teams so this one could come down to the doubles rubbers. 

 

Saturday, 1.00 pm 

Alexander Park v UWA 

Alexander Park host UWA and both sides will be out to grab their first wins of the season. Alexander Park will fancy their chances with the home team comfortable on the grass courts.

Women’s Fixtures 

Friday night, 6.00 pm 

Hensman Park v Alexander Park 

A replay of last year’s grand final albeit with a slightly different looking Alexander Park side. The fixture will depend on the availability of the more experienced Alexander Park players. Jana Ruzic continues to lead from the front in the number one spot and will go up against Alice Stevens who is undefeated so far this season and is coming off an impressive three set win over Cottesloe’s Jess Culley. The form players are Ella Nurkic from Hensman Park who is also undefeated this year. 

 

Saturday, 1.00 pm 

Cottesloe v Dalkeith 

Cottesloe came close to snatching a big win over Hensman Park last week but went into the match with some form, led by captain Alicia Molik who is undefeated so far this season. Dalkeith came ever so close to their first win last week going down to Royal Kings Park by only three games. The matchup of the day will be Lauren Nikoloski (Dalkeith) and Jess Culley (Cottesloe). Both players are matched even, last year with Culley won the most recent battle back in round eight with a three-set win. 

 

Saturday, 1.00 pm 

Peppermint Grove v Royal Kings Park 

Peppermint Grove have started their season in strong form with wins over Alexander Park and Dalkeith but will face some tough competition from Royal Kings Park who are coming off a big win over Dalkeith. Nisha Whittome is the inform player for Peppermint Grove with two wins from two matches’ while Sara Nikolic was back on the winners list last week and will play as the number one seed and go up against Amy Findlay.
