It’s the last round of State League this week before the ITF bye. The match of the round will see a repeat of last season’s men’s final with Cottesloe hosting Peppermint Grove while in the women’s it will be reversed with Peppermint Grove hosting Cottesloe.
Men’s: Cottesloe v Peppermint Grove
Saturday 9th November, 1.00 pm at Cottesloe Tennis Club
This match is set to be a mouthwatering clash. Peppermint Grove responded strongly after missing out on a round one victory. The team welcomed Ethan Cook from round two who has come across from Blue Gum Park and started the season with two wins playing in the number one spot.
Cottesloe’s Scott Webster is set to play as the number one seeded player and likely line up against Jayden Court who is also listed as the number one seed. The match is set to be a close one with the pair having previously played against each other in the final with Court winning 7-6, 6-2.
Tim Gray, who has come over from UWA this season continues in the number two spot and will be joined by Vuk Velickovic who has seen plenty of State League action in the past, having previously played for Hensman Park.
In last year’s final, Sam Ashenden and Jayden Court competed for Peppermint Grove. Ashenden went down to Will Hann in the number four spot, however this time around, Will Hann will most likely play higher up, having played as number two and one. Jayden Court will most likely go up against Cottesloe’s Scott Webster.
Peppermint Grove will have depth in their side with captain Sam Chapman and Sam Ashenden both a chance to play.
Cottesloe’s side will potentially be much the same as last year’s final with Will Hann, Scott Webster and Cam Burton all a chance to line up. Cottesloe has regained Max Weir for this season and has enjoyed his return with Weir having a 2-1 win-loss record so far.
Women’s: Peppermint Grove v Cottesloe
Saturday 9th November, 1.00 pm at Peppermint Grove Tennis Club
Just like the men’s fixture, this one has the potential to go either way with both teams sitting next to each other on the ladder with two wins and one loss.
Cottesloe started the season strong with impressive wins over Dalkeith and Alexander Park and only narrowly lost to last year’s premiers, Hensman Park. Cottesloe’s Jessie Culley is listed to play as the top seed and may come across Peppermint Grove’s Amy Findlay who will be out to respond after last week’s loss to Royal Kings Park’s Sara Nikolic.
The match will be an interesting one with Culley facing her old side for the first time. Jessie Culley comes into the match with two wins and one loss, only going down to Hensman Park’s Alice Stevens in a third-set tie-break.
Flying under the radar is Cottesloe’s Elena Manoj who is the only player undefeated this season. Manoj brings depth to the side and has rapidly improved over the past year and is fast becoming one of the ones to watch in the future.
One to watch for Peppermint Grove is up and coming Isabelle Criddle. Criddle made her State League debut in round two and has not looked back, going at a 100% win rate so far playing in the number four position. A Criddle and Manoj match up could be on the cards and will be one match to keep a close eye on.
