The United Cup Trophy made its way back to Perth for another sightseeing tour visiting schools, tennis clubs, coaching providers and Red Ball competitions.
Standing at 50cm tall, the hand-crafted United Cup features 36 sweeping rods to represent the 18-country mixed doubles partnerships, each shaped by hand.
The United Cup was made by Thomas Lyte, a Royal Warrant holder as silversmiths and goldsmiths to Her Late Majesty The Queen and former Head of the Commonwealth.
They are best known as world class designers, makers and restorers of many of the world’s most iconic trophies including the Laver Cup, and trophies for the ATP Finals, the FA Cup, the Rugby World Cup and the Six Nations Championship.
The tour started with a visit to the Chinese Consulate and various radio interviews with United Cup General Manager Stephen Farrow joining in. The trophy then travelled to Applecross Senior High School to visit year 7’s and year 8’s specialist program students.
The trophy visited St Andrews Grammar School where the entire school of over 600 students formed a giant Greek flag on the school oval in support of team Greece as the only Greek Orthodox School here in WA.
It wasn’t only Perth getting the chance to see the impressive trophy with Busselton on the list last week with the team taking the trophy to see the stunning Busselton Jetty and foreshore while also giving Fuel to Go & Play Red Ball Competition participants a surprise during their competition.
The trophy visited many other Fuel to Go & Play Red Ball Competitions (RBC) across Perth including the South Mandurah RBC, Mandurah RBC and the Catholic Primary Schools Sports Association RBC at Alexander Park, the biggest RBC in the state with over 380 students competing.
The trophy also visited various tennis clubs including, Busselton, Onslow Park, South Mandurah, Mandurah, Alexander Park and South Perth Tennis Club as well as providing an opportunity for young players from coaching providers Tennis Factory, Tennis Excellence and Breakpoint Tennis to experience the trophy.
Players competing in the J30 ITF Perth Junior Championships also got their chance to see the trophy, with it on show during the first day of competition.
The trophy will remain in WA for the next two weeks.
