Tennis West is pleased to announce the appointment of directors Gwyn Dolphin and Efthalia Samaras, to fill casual vacancies on the Board, both for a two-year term.
An open expression of interest for the two vacancies saw a number of candidates complete a nomination. The Nominations Committee followed a thorough process, including interviewing shortlisted candidates, before providing a recommendation to the Tennis West Board. The Board agreed to appoint Gwyn and Efthalia, based on their strong skill sets in the identified areas of finance and project management, coupled with their deep understanding of governance and love for tennis.
The two successful new board members will join recently voted member-elected directors Flora Furness and Angela Nutton, bringing the Tennis West Board to its full complement of nine directors. Each director is focused on the future direction of tennis across Western Australia and committed to upholding the values of the organisation.
With extensive governance and business experience, Gwyn brings a unique blend of skills to tennis leadership. As a former CEO of Tourism WA, he managed large budgets, strategic projects, and high-profile partnerships, including the Qantas London-Perth flight. Gwyn has served on boards for the Hopman Cup, ATDW, and Swan Bells Foundation, offering strong governance and stakeholder management expertise. His experience in tennis, including roles at Tennis West and Floreat Park Tennis Club, gives him valuable insight into the sport’s challenges. He is eager to contribute to tennis development and sustainability in WA, particularly following the recent independent review.
Efthalia is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a member of CAANZ, with 20+ years of experience in audit, financial analysis, and advisory roles across public and private sectors. Currently Efthalia serves on the boards of Gosnells Financial Services Ltd and the WA Speedway Commission and holds a senior leadership role at the Office of the Auditor General. She brings strong financial oversight, strategic thinking, risk management and governance expertise. Efthalia is also committed to integrity, transparency and continuous improvement which aligns with the values of Tennis West, and she is eager to contribute to the growth and sustainability of tennis in WA.
