Nine inspiring women from across Western Australia recently took part in Tennis Australia’s Women Leaders in Tennis program, marking a significant milestone in their leadership journeys both on and off the court. Representing Tennis Clubs from Australind, Broome, Geraldton, Margaret River, Mosman Park, Mullewa, Nedlands, and South Mandurah, these women have demonstrated exceptional dedication to advancing their roles within the tennis community.

The Women Leaders in Tennis program is a four-month initiative designed to increase the participation of women in community leadership positions through professional development, mentorship, and networking opportunities. As part of Tennis Australia’s broader Women and Girls strategy, the program is subsidised by Tennis Australia through an Australian Sports Commission federal government grant. Participants engage in a blend of face-to-face workshops and online interactive sessions, focusing on building leadership knowledge, skills, and confidence.

The recent cohort from Western Australia culminated their journey with a final face-to-face graduation day on Sunday, 30 March. During this event, the graduates presented their action learning projects and gained valuable insights from Tennis West board members, who shared their own leadership experiences.

Tennis West extends heartfelt congratulations to these remarkable women for their commitment and achievements. Their success not only enriches their local clubs but also contributes significantly to fostering inclusive and dynamic leadership within the broader tennis community.

This fully subsidised program offers a unique opportunity for current and prospective women community leaders involved in tennis clubs or venues, whether in paid or volunteer capacities, to enhance their leadership skills and expand their professional networks.

Nathalie Smalberger  from Nedlands Tennis Club reflected on her experience in the program:

“I really enjoyed the WLIT program and met some lovely like minded leaders with great ideas and commitment on how to keep promoting the game of tennis. I learnt a lot about myself and leadership in general with all the materials included.”

Sara Garrido Díaz from Broome Tennis Club also graduated from the program:

“I have taken with me a lot of new knowledge and tools, as well as good networking with other clubs.”
